&body=We designed two day care centers for the Army Corps of Engineers at the Presidio in San Francisco. Both were designed for 250 children aged six weeks to twelve years, and cover 19,000 square feet each. The Army had pre-designed modules that we modified to integrate the building into its narrow site to give each age group its own sunny, well-protected playgrounds. We used residential forms like gable roofs with dormers and double-hung windows to make the children feel at home. Also included were administrative spaces, a commercial kitchen, and a private staff lounge and patio.&
