&body=This remodel was an exercise in balancing light. Originally the rooms were dark and dreary despite reflected light from the San Francisco Bay just outside. We brought light deep into the house with a skylight that provides light and focus to the sink island. A dramatic glass-block window behind the cook top gives a beautifully soft light at the rear of the room. The master bedroom was completely reconfigured: a partial-height bookshelf turns the bed 45 degrees to the room and separates the bedroom from the bathroom, which features a step-in shower and tub with limestone walls.&
